Did you know you can securely manage your driver license or identification card and all of your vehicle, trailer, and boat licenses in one place?

License eXpress (LX) is a one-stop shop for your transactions with the Washington State Department of Licensing. With LX, you may be able to avoid a trip to a licensing office. All you need is an internet-connected smartphone, tablet, or computer.

It’s free, it’s easy, and there is nothing to download.

In addition to common transactions such as license/ID renewals, tab/decal renewals, and address changes, LX makes it easy to:

  • Pre-apply for your first Washington driver license, ID card, or enhanced driver license/ID
  • Print your temporary license
  • Order a replacement license/ID
  • Add a motorcycle permit or endorsement
  • Get reinstatement information
  • Submit your DUI hearing request
  • Purchase your driving record
  • Report the sale of a vehicle or boat and see when the new owner transfers the title into their name
  • See when your license or registration expires and how much it will cost to renew
  • Sign up for (or update) email renewal reminders
  • Much more!

LX uses a highly secure login process through the state’s Secure Access Washington (SAW) service to safeguard your information. It also prefills your personal information, saving you time when you renew or use other LX services.

Through LX, you can even complete certain business transactions, such as:

  • Manage your driver training school
  • Manage your vehicle fleet
  • Get e-permits: Issue, revoke, reprint, extend, etc. (dealers)
  • Report abandoned vehicles (tow truck operators)
  • Report vehicle inventory in your wrecking yard (wreckers)
  • Report vehicles received and demolished (scrap processors)
  • Declare vehicles a total loss (insurance company)
  • Look up a plate or vessel (formerly IVIPS)

You can renew your professional license through a different platform.

LX is just one reason to visit dol.wa.gov. We’re constantly expanding our suite of online services.

Although most license/ID renewals can be done through License eXpress, there are some exceptions. Temporary, pandemic-related waivers allow almost anyone to renew online, including people under age 24, over 70, or those who renewed online last time. However, people in these situations must use our no-login option rather than LX.

DOL makes managing driver and vehicle licenses easier

OLYMPIA—The Department of Licensing introduced a fast, easy way to manage your driver license and all of your vehicle, trailer and boat licenses in one secure online service called License Express.

This new service allows people to take care of all of the most common DOL license transactions like renewals and address changes. It also makes it easy to take care of many less common tasks like ordering a duplicate driver license or ID card, signing up for email renewal reminders, ordering copies of your driving record and report the sale of vehicles or boats.

It’s no secret our customers typically dread a trip to a local driver licensing office to wait for service,” Licensing Director Alan Haight said. “License Express is like having a DOL office at home.”

License Express ties together DOL’s most popular online services that, individually, have been used more than 2.5 million times by customers wanting to skip a trip to an office. DOL plans to keep improving this new service over time and adding more features to make it even more useful and save DOL customers more time.

License Express takes advantage of a highly secure login process through the state’s Secure Access Washington service to safeguard personal information.

DOL customers can learn more about this new service and sign up at the DOL website at dol.wa.gov.
