How the Department of Licensing (DOL) serves Washingtonians changed a lot over the past decade. The agency shifted to an appointment-based model at all driver licensing offices, eliminating wait times for those who plan ahead. Mobile licensing and outreach efforts reached farther than ever into communities that need them most. And with a nudge from a global pandemic, more and more services moved online, making it convenient for residents to get what they need from anywhere in the world.
Not everything went smoothly, of course. As our service model evolved with the times, the official DOL website, dol.wa.gov, was slow to keep pace.
That’s about to change.
In June, just in time for the summer travel season, we’re launching a site redesign that delivers more intuitive and equitable access to our services. No matter what kind of device you use, we’ve made it easier to get what you need on the go: information and services for driver licenses/IDs, vehicle tabs, license plates, business and professional licensing, and more.
The new modern, user-friendly site is built with you in mind. After all, it’s based directly on feedback from DOL customers who participated in various surveys and activities to help us identify and organize the content you care about most. Everyone who took the time to offer their thoughts had a hand in the redesign, which will start with our most critical pages and, over time, stretch across them all.
We’ll follow up with more information as we get closer to the launch, but for now, we hope you’ll accept our gratitude. A better website is just one part of our commitment to helping every resident live, work, drive, and thrive — but it’s an increasingly important part, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
